Since yesterday, Sunday, Spaniards who are fully immunized against the coronavirus do not have to present any proof to enter the Balearic Islands. Those who are vaccinated with a single dose can also freely enter the archipelago if they have received it 15 days before traveling. A measure that came into effect yesterday after it was announced this Wednesday at the Fitur tourist fair by the president of the Government, Francina Armengol.

These new requirements are part of the measures approved by the Balearic Government to face the coronavirus pandemic that will be in force for two weeks, from this Sunday to June 5. Neither will Spaniards who come from autonomous communities with a cumulative incidence below 60 cases per 100,000 inhabitants need any proof, a requirement that only the Valencia Community meets today.

However, if their communities exceed this amount, they will only have to submit an antigen test – until now a PCR was required. The Balearic Islands do not have an exterior perimeter closure, nor are there any restrictions on mobility between islands or municipalities, although the international health controls common throughout Spain are maintained in its ports and airports.

However, also in terms of international mobility, normality is gradually recovering. The airports of the islands registered a total of 561 flights yesterday, of which 339 were international and 222 national, according to data provided by Aena.

By islands, the Son Sant Joan airport in Palma received a total of 378 flights (113 domestic); that of Eivissa, 132 (70 national), and Maó, in Menorca, 51 flights (39 of them national).

Most of the 222 domestic flights scheduled for this day are connections with large cities, such as Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Bilbao. However, there are also scheduled flights to or from Alicante, Zaragoza, Santiago de Compostela and Malaga. In this way, passengers from these national destinations only had to present an antigen test, or, in the case of those fully vaccinated, nothing.

Flights from United Kingdom

On the other hand, of the total of 339 international flights that arrived yesterday Sunday to the islands, 140 have origin or destination in Germany. Mainly, it deals with connections with the cities of Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Munich and Berlin, among others.

Flights also arrived from other destinations, such as Amsterdam, which, as in the case of Germany, allows its citizens to return to the Balearic Islands without the need for PCR or quarantine, as well as from Paris or also Brussels.

In addition, among the international flights that had been scheduled for yesterday, there were some 15 connections with the United Kingdom, mainly with London, Manchester and Bristol, despite the fact that the Government of Boris Johnson recommends not traveling to the islands and requires its citizens to quarantine and PCR on the way back by keeping the islands in the amber color of their covid traffic light of destinations.
