Uzbekistan Advances to Asian Games Semifinals After Beating Saudi Arabia: 2022 Asian Games Football Results

KOMPAS.com – Uzbekistan managed to advance to the men’s football semifinals at the 2022 Asian Games after beating Saudi Arabia. Previously, Uzbekistan successfully eliminated the Indonesian national team in the round of 16.

The matches in the top 8, aka the quarter-finals, for men’s soccer at the 2022 Asian Games will be held on Sunday (1/10/2023).

The series of matches in the top 8 of the 2022 Asian Games was opened by the Uzbekistan vs Saudi Arabia national team duel.

Uzbekistan advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2022 Asian Games after beating the Indonesian national team 2-0 in the round of 16. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia also beat India with a score of 2-0.

Competing at the Yellow Dragon Sports Center Stadium, Hangzhou, Uzbekistan opened the scoring in the 24th minute through a goal from Saidazamat Mirsaidov.

One minute before normal time for the first half ran out, Uzbekistan was able to double the score thanks to Alisher Odilov’s goal.

Saudi Arabia revived their hopes in the 66th minute thanks to a return goal scored by Mohammed Maran.

However, in the remaining time Saudi Arabia failed to score a goal back.

The final result, Uzbekistan won 2-1 over Saudi Arabia.

The 2022 Asian Games football results made Uzbekistan the first team to qualify for the semifinals.

This is the first time that Uzbekistan has been able to qualify for the semifinals of the Asian Games since the U23/U24 player regulations were implemented at the 14th edition in Busan, 2002.

Previously, the Uzbekistan national team’s best achievement at the Asian Games was the quarter-finals in the 2006, 2014 and 2018 editions.

In the semifinals, Uzbekistan will face the winner of the China vs South Korea match.

Meanwhile, the other two 2022 Asian Games men’s football quarter-final matches are Iran vs Hong Kong and Japan vs North Korea.
