Gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were shot dead on camera while being taken for a medical check-up in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj. The alleged shooters were said to be masquerading as journalists, and it is reported that 17 cops, who were responsible for Atiq Ahmed’s security, have been suspended in response. Internet services have been suspended, and section 144 has been imposed in the region following the incident. The leader of the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, criticised the lack of rule of law and expressed concerns regarding the rising levels of crime in Uttar Pradesh. Three people have been arrested in connection with the shootings.
