US President Joe Biden has given support to the state of New York, after the powerful winter storm that hit much of the northern United States over the Christmas weekend.

At least 57 people lost their lives in the storm, 28 of them in the city of Buffalo, which was hit particularly hard, according to NBC News.

Dead found in car

Several are said to have been found dead in cars, or to have died of heart attacks after shoveling snow, or because ambulances failed to arrive at the scene.

State authorities say so.

– Some were found in cars, others were found in roadside snowdrifts. We know there are people who have been trapped in cars for more than two days, an Erie County spokesman said Monday.

A 22-year-old woman is among those confirmed dead in Buffalo, according to multiple media outlets, including British ones Independent. She was driving home on Friday when she got stuck and trapped in the car. The woman must have been locked up for 18 hours.
