Behind the noise of the news, it was difficult for many to understand what was the main result. the recent visit of the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to Kiev… On the one hand, there were traditional American assurances of support for Ukraine. But we have heard them before. Was it worth flying across the ocean for this in the era of the heyday of digital diplomacy? On the other hand, the drama of the trip attracts attention. The last item on Blinken’s program was a meeting with representatives of Ukrainian civil society.
It was on its outcome that Blinken’s final impression of Ukraine depended. Public organizations have been communicating with the State Department for several years already, voicing the real state of affairs in the country and proposing concrete actions. Thus, the US sanctions against Igor Kolomoisky and Alexander Dubinsky were introduced, among other things, thanks to efforts «watchdogs “of Ukrainian democracy.
And if earlier, during the presidency of Petro Poroshenko, the messages of civil activists were more harsh, now anti-corruption experts, although they frankly emphasized the existence of problems in the political and legal space of the country, still bent the line that the State Department should cooperate with the current Ukrainian administration and do it sincerely.
