USA: Stronger-than-expected improvement in consumer sentiment-Michigan, Market News

Aug. 28 (Reuters) – US consumer sentiment improved more markedly than initially estimated in August, final results from the University of Michigan’s monthly survey show on Friday.

Its confidence index rose to 74.1 from 72.5 in July and a first estimate released two weeks ago at 72.8. Economists and analysts polled by Reuters expected confirmation of this figure.

The component of consumers’ judgment on their current situation increased to 82.9 from 82.8 the previous month while the first estimate announced a deterioration to 82.5.

That of the outlook advanced to 68.5 from 65.9 in July. The first estimate put it at 66.5. (French version Laetitia Volga, edited by)
