A 29-year-old Texan woman was sentenced to death for killing a pregnant woman in October 2020 in order to extract and steal the fetus that was in her womb. Taylor P.’s sentencing verdict was handed down Wednesday in Texas, following several weeks into a trial that began in September, according to court documents released.
The condemned woman had for months made her boyfriend and relatives believe that she was expecting a child, discussing her – fictitious – pregnancy on social media and even buying herself a fake silicone belly. She actually couldn’t have children, having had a hysterectomy.
On October 9, 2020, Taylor P. went to Reagan Simmons-Hancock, a 21-year-old woman who was in her final months of pregnancy, and inflicted more than 100 stab wounds on her. After slitting her stomach to extract the fetus, she left, leaving the victim’s 3-year-old daughter asleep in another room.
The child didn’t survive
Taylor P. was arrested shortly after, about fifteen kilometers from the scene of the murder, driving her car, with the newborn on her lap. She had assured that she had just given birth to her. The child was hospitalized but did not survive. She was tried in the small town of New Boston, east of Dallas.
During the hearings, the police explained on the witness stand that, a few weeks before the murder, Taylor P. had begun scouting for pregnant women in specialty stores or maternity hospitals. She herself had made appointments at some of the clinics and had been seen there, according to an investigator. Shortly before the events, she had seen many videos of births and caesarean sections.
