WASHINGTON, May 21 (Reuters) – Growth in private sector activity in the United States accelerated in May to its highest level since 2009 amid strong domestic demand, early survey results show on Friday IHS Markit to purchasing managers (PMI), who suggest the economy is continuing to recover.
The composite “flash” PMI index rose to 68.1 from 63.5 in April.
For manufacturing activity, the PMI index rose to 61.5 in May from 60.5 the previous month. This is the highest figure since the survey was extended in October 2009 to cover the current scope.
The explosion in demand also supported the services sector, with the “flash” PMI standing at 70.1, again the highest level since October 2009, against 64.7 in April.
