USA-Powell (Fed) sees “sustained improvement” in economy

WASHINGTON, June 22 (Reuters) – The US economy continues to show “sustained improvement” after the impact of the coronavirus health crisis, benefiting from a rebound in the labor market, but inflation has “risen sharply notable “in recent months, will declare Tuesday the chairman of the Federal Reserve (Fed).

Jerome Powell is to be heard by a parliamentary subcommittee of the House of Representatives dedicated to the coronavirus health crisis.

In remarks prepared in advance and communicated by his services Monday afternoon, the boss of the Fed does not go into the details of the current monetary policy of the central bank, nor does he raise the possibility that it accelerates the withdrawal of certain stimulus measures due to the rise in inflation.

Jerome Powell says he sees this price increase as a transitory phenomenon.

“We will do everything possible, at the Fed, to support the economy as much as necessary to finalize its recovery,” he said, adding that “the pandemic continues to pose risks”.
