According to the forecast outlined by National Security Assistant to the President Jake Sullivan and US Director of National Intelligence Avril Haynes, without additional US military assistance, Ukraine would be able to fight “for only a few weeks, maybe months”. Administration officials also gave lawmakers a timetable for when Kiev’s military resources will be exhausted and assessment of the battlefield situation.

The Washington administration sent a request to Congress almost four months ago for additional appropriations in fiscal year 2024, which began in the United States on October 1, 2023, mainly to provide assistance to Israel and Ukraine, as well as to counter China and Russia in the Asia-Pacific region.
