The United States on Wednesday did not agree to the appointment of Nigerian former finance minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the new chairman of the WTO trade organization.
She had been nominated by the three WTO delegates charged with finding a successor to Roberto Azevedo. The nomination of the Nigerian was widely supported worldwide.
But now that the US does not agree, a new president must be sought. The appointment must be supported by all members. The US would support the rival candidate, South Korean Commerce Minister Yoo Myung-hee.
Now a meeting is scheduled for November 9 to tie the knot, a week after the US elections.
