“US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen affirms commitment to Ukraine at G7 meeting in Japan”

NIIGATA, Japan (Reuters) – U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen will stress at a G7 meeting in Japan on Thursday the United States’ commitment to continue to support Ukraine as needed, while working with other rich countries to stop Russia’s ability to wage this war.

Increasing support for Ukraine is one of three priorities – along with fighting inflation and long-term support for the economy – identified by Janet Yellen in a speech she will deliver to her G7 counterparts.

“I look forward to coordinating with the other members of the G7 support for Ukraine and the deterioration of Russia’s ability to wage war,” she said, according to excerpts communicated upstream by her services.

“As I have said before, we will stand by Ukraine for as long as it takes,” added the US Treasury Secretary, stressing that a coalition of countries led by the United States was focused this year on ways to ensure that Russia does not manage to circumvent extensive Western sanctions.

“We have taken a wave of measures over the past few months to combat escape. And my team has traveled around the world to intensify this work,” said Janet Yellen.
