US stealth fighter jet crashes into South China Sea, evacuation attempt is carried out

Navy United States of America (US) says it is working to evacuate a F-35C stealth fighter jet hers that fell into the water South China Sea after experiencing a landing incident on an aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson.

As reported Reuters, Wednesday (26/1/2022), at least seven US military personnel were injured in the incident on Monday (24/1) local time. The US Navy previously said the incident occurred on the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, which was sailing in the South China Sea.

The F-35C fighter jet reportedly hit the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson as it was about to make a landing, then plunged into the ocean. The fighter jet pilot managed to eject himself and was eventually found by a US military helicopter.

The cause of this incident is still under investigation.

“I can confirm that the aircraft hit the flight deck on landing and then plunged into the water,” said US 7th Fleet spokesman Lieutenant Nicholas Lingo.

“The US Navy is conducting an operational arrangement for the evacuation of the F-35C fighter jet,” he added.

There was no further mention of the condition of the US stealth fighter jet that fell into the ocean.
