US state of Georgia to manually recount votes | Abroad

“Because the margin is so small, a full, manual recount is required,” said Raffensperger, a Republican, at a news conference. “We want to start this before the week is up.”

He noted that about 5 million votes have been cast in the southern state. With 99 percent of the votes counted, the difference between President Donald Trump and his Democratic challenger is just 14,111 votes, Raffensperger said. Trump supporters had asked for a recount earlier this week.

Biden doesn’t need Georgia to win the presidential election. He was pushed over the 270 electoral threshold by Pennsylvania on Saturday morning, where American media declared the Democrat the winner.

Georgia has 16 electorial votes. According to most media, Biden is now at 279 electors, while 270 was needed to win the election. Trump stands at 213 or 214 electoral votes, according to various media.
