US Screenwriters Overwhelmingly Approve New Collective Agreement with Hollywood Studios

Los Angeles (dpa) – The US screenwriters have accepted a new collective agreement with the major Hollywood studios by a clear majority. 99 percent of the writers’ union members were in favor of the agreement, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) announced on Monday (local time). In the ratification process, 8,435 members voted for the new treaty, 90 were against it.

In the almost five-month-long writers’ strike, the WGA board approved a preliminary agreement on September 26th between the union and the major studios and streaming providers in the USA. The members of the union, which has over 11,000 members, then had to vote.

According to the WGA, the new deal is valid until May 2026. The contract contains, among other things, wage increases, regulations for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and higher subsidies for retirement and health care.
