Travelers should avoid close contact with infected people,
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WASHINGTON — The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has raised its travel warning to Level 2 due to the spread of the monkeypox virus. The spread of the virus requires “increased vigilance”.
The CDC says, cases monkey pox have been reported in Europe, North America, South America, Africa, Asia and Australia. Therefore, travelers should avoid close contact with infected persons, including those with skin lesions or genital lesions.
“The risk to the general public is low, but you should seek medical care immediately if you develop a new, unexplained skin rash (lesion on any part of the body), with or without fever and chills, and avoid contact with other people,” the statement said. The CDC has three warning levels for epidemic diseases, a Level 3 Warning to Avoid Non-essential Travel, a Level 2 Alert for Enhanced Precautions and Spectacle Practices. While the Level 1 warning is to take the usual precautions.
Monkeypox usually begins with flu-like symptoms, and swelling of the lymph nodes before the rash begins to form on the face and body. Symptoms can appear up to 21 days after exposure.
Hundreds of cases of monkeypox have been detected around the world. The cases were first detected in Europe and the US last month. The smallpox virus is endemic in western and central Africa. The United States currently has two vaccines against the smallpox virus. The CDC has started distributing the vaccine to states.
