US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is more specific: according to him, the Chinese Ministry of State Security “maintains an ecosystem of hired criminal hackers who work for the regime as well as for their own financial gain”.
The main aim would be to get hold of trade secrets related to aviation, defence, education, health care and the like, but organizations critical of China’s policies in Xinjiang, Tibet or Hong Kong would also be victims. The American court previously conducted an investigation into four Chinese people suspected of cybercrime.
