The prominent American TV star Regis Philbin died at the age of 88, according to media reports.
The American TV legend Regis Philbin is dead. Several media reports, citing a statement from his family.
“We are deeply saddened that our beloved Regis Philbin died last night, one month before his 89th birthday, for natural reasons,” it says. He was considered one of the most famous faces in US television history.
Guinness Record: Philbin was the largest US television presence ever
Philbin was born in New York in 1931 and, after completing his university degree in sociology, initially served in the US Navy before turning to the TV business.
He gained particular fame with his breakfast show “Live with Regis and Kathie Lee” and as a moderator of the US edition of “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”. In addition to many awards, he also received a star on the “Walk of Fame” in Hollywood.
With more than 16,700 hours of airtime, the Guinness Book of Records leads Philbin as the presenter with the largest US television presence of all time. “This is an average of almost an hour a day during his 50-year career.” US President Donald Trump praised him as one of the “greats in the history of television”.
