The US Justice Department wants to ensure that former President Donald Trump’s legal team is prosecuted through the courts. Which reports The Washington Post Thursday according to sources inside the judiciary.
The Department believes the team has contempt of court because Trump’s attorneys have not yet complied with a subpoena filed in May. In the subpoena, US authorities demanded Trump return all confidential documents in his possession.
In early August, the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s Florida home. The search found more than 13,000 documents Trump is believed to have taken from the White House when he resigned. Among the documents were government secrets.
A Trump spokesman said in a response that this move by the authorities is part of “a political witch hunt”. According to him, Trump’s lawyers are cooperating and are transparent.
