US Justice Minister: No Evidence of Fraud Affecting Election Results | NOW

The United States Department of Justice has found no evidence of widespread electoral fraud that could change the outcome of the presidential election. Justice Minister William Barr said that in an interview with Tuesday AP.

According to a reporter from CNN Barr arrived at the White House Tuesday afternoon (local time) to meet with Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. The legal team of incumbent President Donald Trump left shortly afterwards in a statement know that Barr’s Ministry investigation is incomplete. The team also states that many of the “evidence” provided has not been investigated.

According to Barr, the FBI and federal prosecutors have investigated specific cases, but they did not provide enough evidence for any other election outcome. “So far we have not seen any fraud on a scale that could have changed the election results.”

Barr’s statements are remarkable, because until now he has always rallied behind President Trump. The latter insists that there must have been fraud in the election, which was won by his Democratic opponent Joe Biden.

Trump still refuses to admit defeat

Trump still refuses to admit his loss, but so far has failed to provide any evidence showing widespread fraud. Barr’s statements are yet another setback for Trump, who has previously lost nearly all lawsuits filed.

On Sunday, Trump gave an interview for the first time after the lost election. He stressed opposite Fox News that he will use every legal possibility to prove his right. “My thoughts will be no different in six months: there has been a lot of cheating.”

Two weeks ago, despite objections from federal assistant prosecutors, Barr admitted permission to investigate election irregularities. However, only “substantial allegations” were allowed to be investigated and prosecutors were not allowed to investigate “unrealistic or far-fetched allegations”. This was a remarkable step, as the Minister of Justice usually does not interfere with the elections if there is no final result yet.

Barr has been accused several times in the past of using the Justice Department as a tool of power to protect Trump’s political and personal interests.
