US Election Report: Russia acted against Biden through Trump’s allies

During the election campaign in the United States last year, Russia tried to make misleading or unproven accusations against then-presidential candidate Joe Biden, through allies of then-White House boss Donald Trump and his administration. US intelligence came to this conclusion in a report quoted by Reuters.

According to a 15-page document released today by the office of the director of US national intelligence, Russian President Vladimir Putin knew for the operation and probably directed it. The report highlights allegations that Trump’s allies acted in a way that helped Moscow by backing allegations against Biden made before the Nov. 3 election by Russian-linked Ukrainian officials.

However, unlike previous elections in the United States, Russian hackers have not tried to penetrate the electoral infrastructure, the Associated Press notes, quoted by BTA.

US intelligence agencies have found other attempts to influence voters, including an alleged campaign by Iran for covert influence to the detriment of Trump.

The report rejects allegations circulated by the former US president’s allies that China has tried to intervene in support of Biden. According to US intelligence, Beijing has not made such an effort.

China seeks stability in its relations with the United States and did not believe “that the selection of a particular candidate would bring him sufficient advantages to take the risk of possible retaliation in the event that his intervention is discovered,” the report said. that there were attempts to influence the elections by Cuba, Venezuela and the Lebanese group Hezbollah, but they were on a smaller scale than the Russian and Iranian campaigns.

American intelligence found no evidence that foreign hackers had altered the results or otherwise obstructed the US election, the AP notes.

So far, there is no comment from the parties mentioned in the report.
