UK joins US in pledging to curb Russian oil imports by year’s end

The president of United States, Joe Biden, has decided to ban imports of Russian oil and gas to the United States due to the invasion of Ukraine, a decision that will notably cut revenues for the Russian economy, but will also increase the price of fuel at US gas stations.
Biden announced his decision this Tuesday. Republicans overwhelmingly support this decision, which has been advanced by the AP agency. For its part, the United Kingdom has also announced this Tuesday that will stop Russian oil imports by the end of the year.
This decision comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskymet by videoconference on Saturday with US senators and deputies and asked them for that embargo, among other measures against Russia for its aggression.
In sanctions on Russian gas, the US will act alone, but “in close cooperation with European allies”, which are more dependent on Russian energy supplies. Russia’s natural gas accounts for a third of Europe’s fossil fuel consumption. The US does not import Russian natural gas.
