US B-52 bombers fly over Romania and NATO east flank on Friday / Joint exercises

The United States flew B-52 Stratofortress bombers over NATO’s eastern flank on Friday, conducting joint exercises with German and Romanian armies as a sign of unity, as the Russian invasion of Ukraine enters its second weekend, according to CNN.

The largest strategic bombers in the US Air Force took off from RAF Fairford, a station of the Royal Air Force in England, and conducted close air support training and integration missions, according to a statement from the US Air Force in Europe.

The B-52s then flew to Romania, where they conducted closer air support training as part of the BTB task force missions.

The flight over the Romanian airspace brought the bombers closer to the edge of the NATO countries, adjacent to the Ukrainian airspace, where the Russian aviation is trying to establish the air supremacy.

“BTF rotations give us a critical opportunity to integrate and train with our allies and partners, especially in this difficult time,” said General Jeff Harrigian, commander of the United States Air Force in Europe, of the United States Air Force. Africa and NATO Allied Air Command.

“Training together ensures that NATO’s defensive power remains unmatched,” he said.
