WASHINGTON – The northeast and northwest of the United States and Canada are suffering from an extreme heat wave, with temperatures that would not be out of place in a desert state like Qatar. In the city of Portland, Oregon, the mercury reached a record high of over 41 degrees, breaking the previous record of 40 degrees set in 1981. A little further north, in British Colombia, Canada, the thermometer in Lytton even reached 46.6 degrees.
