US Administration Requests $24 Billion in Additional Funding for Ukraine

The official noted that the Biden administration is grateful for Ukraine’s bipartisan support.

As the White House spokeswoman added, Biden “is confident that this support will continue as we work together to make sure the Ukrainian people have everything they need to continue fighting bravely for their freedom.”

Earlier Thursday, in a letter to Congress, the presidential administration requested more than $24 billion in additional funding, including more than $13 billion in security assistance and $7.3 billion in economic and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

According to Jean-Pierre, Director of the Office and Budget Shalanda Yang and members of the President’s Legislative Affairs Team “have had numerous conversations, numerous calls with legislators on the ground, with both sides explaining exactly the need and the main points… and highlight the urgency of this request.” .

The White House Speaker also said that the administration will continue to engage with Congress, and that she believes “it will continue on a bipartisan basis.”

Additional US funding for Ukraine

Recall, on August 10, US President Joe Biden submitted a request to Congress for additional funding in the amount of about $40 billion in emergency funding, and part of these funds – $24 billion – to help Ukraine.

Before that, the Pentagon said that in total, about $6 billion remained at the disposal of the department to help Ukraine. It is worth noting here that earlier the US Department of Defense assessed the cost of military equipment that it sent to Ukraine, and it turned out that it was overestimated at about $ 3 billion.

We add that recently the White House National Security Council strategic communications coordinator John Kirby noted that Biden is allowed a new appeal to Congress with a request for additional funds to help Ukraine if necessary.
