Uruguay sent a 300-kilo sample of bovine tongue to Japan

The first 300 kilos of bovine tongue shipped from the Carrasco airport to Japan. This is a sample that was sent by airplane in the Asian country this Saturday.

The minister of livestock, Fernando Mattos, was present at the boat which took place on Friday and said that “this is a milestone”. He then clarified that “these are samples that are shipped by air” and that “there is a significant cost of transport, but it allows for a quick arrival for customers who want to try the product”.

The hierarch referred to the importance of recovering this market, from which Uruguay was absent due to the foot and mouth disease in 2000. “This is a milestone which is the beginning of the commercial process and the completion of our work in the MGAP and in rotations abroad in the sense of qualifying such an important product as beef tongue for a market as demanding as Japan”, he specified and hoped that this “opens the doors” to other trade between the countries.
