update on class closures in Île-de-France

If no school has yet closed its doors in Île-de-France since the resurgence of the epidemic, many classes no longer welcome students, particularly in the Academy of Versailles.

The fifth wave of Covid in France does not spare Ile-de-France schools. While none of them has yet closed its doors in all three academies in the region, many classes have been closed in recent weeks, sAccording to the latest data from the Ministry of National Education dated Thursday, November 18.

A total of 728 classes are currently closed in the region due to the pandemic.

The Academy of Versailles has 321 closed classes. It is the second most affected academy in France, behind that of Lille which has 355 closed classes.

Within the Créteil Academy, 273 classes are closed due to the epidemic.

Finally, in the Paris Academy, 134 classes have closed.

These class closures coincide with a resurgence of the epidemic of Covid in all the departments of the Ile-de-France region.

Thus, the incidence rate has risen above the alert threshold set at 50 by the government. As a reminder, the incidence rate corresponds to the number of cases detected per 100,000 inhabitants. It is in Paris that it is the most important in the region since it amounts to 222 in the capital.

In Yvelines, the incidence rate has also reached a high threshold with 151 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

In the Val-de-Marne, it reaches 154 according to figures from Covid-Tracker.

During a press briefing given this Friday, the government spokesman, Gabriel Attal warned of “a lightning startof the fifth wave.

Regarding the wearing of masks in primary schools, all Ile-de-France departments remain concerned. Seine-et-Marne, which had lifted the obligation in September, reintroduced it on November 8th.

On its website, the Ministry of National Education recalls that in primary schools, a class closure occurs as soon as a case of Covid is detected in a pupil.

With regard to legislation in colleges and high schools, the Academy of Versailles specifies that “students who have been in contact with a confirmed case and who are not vaccinated must continue their distance learning for 7 days“. On the other hand, the Academy specifies that: students with contact cases justifying a complete vaccination schedule continue face-to-face lessons

On the side of parents’ associations, repeated class closures remain difficult to collect. “The situation repeats itself over and over again, it’s an endless day, there is a real lack of staff in the schools“says Alixe Rivière, vice-president and spokesperson for FCPE 93. Alixe Rivière explains in particular that according to her organization”the fact of delegating certain tasks such as the control of health passes to the heads of establishments serves to camouflage a glaring lack of personnel

She also denounces a lack of sanctuary. “The question that continues to concern us at the FCPE in this time of health crisis is: how do we take care of children? “, she specifies.
