Up to half of Prague’s hotels may end, the association warns

According to a current survey by the association, most hoteliers estimate attendance by the end of the year at between six and ten percent of normal.

Another problem is that corporate events have almost completely disappeared. The use of conference facilities has been at one tenth of normal since the beginning of the year.

The Czech Statistical Office (CSO) has so far published data from tourism only for the second quarter, ie April to June. It was during these months that quarantine measures fell, including the complete closure of borders.

In the second quarter, the number of overnight stays decreased by 66.7 percent for Czechs and by 96.2 percent for foreign guests. In the second quarter, 988 thousand guests were accommodated in hotels and similar establishments, which represented a year-on-year decrease of 82.9 percent, in absolute numbers by 4.8 million guests.

It can be assumed that the numbers for the Czechs will improve. However, in the second quarter, the Czechs were far from compensating for the shortage of foreign guests. On the contrary, the Czechs also accommodated much less, despite the fact that the government encouraged holidays in the country.

As Novinky reported, some restaurants in the center of Prague are also closing. Restaurateur Jan Šimice, who closed two businesses in Karlova Street, told the News that he had also closed a neighboring hotel.
