Unvaccinated, Marlène goes from the hospital to the factory – Guimaëc

Six months ago, Marlène Bourven put on her nurse’s coat to work in the general medicine department at the Morlaix public hospital (CHPM). A job that the 34-year-old mother has been practicing for five years, after graduating from Ifsi in Lannion (22). “I took a break from my studies to work as a nurse’s aide for a year and a half. After that, I navigated between long stay, oncology or psychiatry. Change does not put me off. »

Since September 2021, the Guimaëcoise has not yet seen any patients. “I manufacture boiler modules on the lines of Sermeta, in Morlaix. Funny professional shift, at a time when the public hospital is understaffed, in the midst of the covid crisis. It is that Marlène Bourven is temporarily suspended, for lack of vaccination.

I thought long and hard last summer. I don’t go out much, I lead a safe life and I don’t put others at risk. I’d rather lose my job than lose my health eventually

“I have nothing of an antivax”

A choice that she calmly justifies. “I have nothing of an antivax. Besides, I am up to date on all my other vaccinations. But I remain wary of new technologies like Messenger RNA, on which we lack perspective. If I had been ten years older, my decision might have been different. At my age, with a very low risk of a serious form of covid, the balance is clearly unfavourable. I was also contaminated in November, I got out of it with a night of fever. I thought long and hard last summer. I don’t go out much, I lead a safe life and I don’t put others at risk. I would rather lose my job than eventually lose my health. »

If the young woman has not compromised, it is also because outside, the job market has become attractive. “I stopped working at the hospital on a Thursday. On Monday, the temp agency that I had applied for found me a first shelving job at Brico Dépôt. I continued immediately afterwards with an eight-month fixed-term contract at Sermeta. And frankly, I’m not complaining! »

No more stress, weekend work and constant schedule changes. I had ten days off with my family at Christmas, a luxury that had never happened to me before!

Less stress

Marlène even enjoys discovering another workplace. “It’s the factory but we often change workstations, the job is not monotonous. “And then, something new for her:” No more stress, weekend work and incessant schedule changes. I had ten days off with my family at Christmas, a luxury that had never happened to me before! »

And tomorrow ? “I hope despite everything to resume my work as a caregiver one day”, says the Finistère, who has “no anger or any bitterness against the Hospital Center”. On one condition, she believes, however: “That the public service reviews its copy. If he wants to keep his staff, the hospital will have no choice. »
