Naci Ünüvar says he has never doubted his contract extension at Ajax. The seventeen-year-old playmaker was in the interest of several clubs, but signed up until mid-2023 in Amsterdam.
“For me it was fairly simple. I wanted to stay with Ajax anyway. Of course there was interest, but I have clearly indicated to my father and agent that I want to stay with Ajax”, Ünüvar says. FOX Sports. “If Ajax comes after one year that they want to extend again, I will quickly say yes to that. I want to succeed here. I did not want to leave.”
Ünüvar is on the way back after groin complaints. On Wednesday he played a half with Young Ajax against Young FC Utrecht (1-2). “This is not my level, I can do a lot more”, he says about his performance. “But this was the first full half, so that has to be built up. I have to get back into my rhythm and pick up my own level.”
Because Ünüvar is working on his fitness, he is not yet part of coach Erik ten Hag’s match selection, unlike some other talents. “The trainer decides that. I am certainly not disappointed about that. For me it is just important that I make minutes and quickly get back to my old level.”
