The match of the third round of the “path of regions” Fonbet – Russian Football Cup between the Kirov “Dynamo” and the Moscow club Medialeague 2Drots was held on Monday in Belokamenka (Murmansk region). The meeting was marked not only by the confident victory of the capital’s team with a score of 2:0, but also by an unusual venue – an artificial football field was built 16 meters below sea level – at the bottom of the dock of the Center for the Construction of Large-Tonnage Offshore Facilities, in which huge modular platforms for gas liquefaction are being built.

When the platform is ready, water is released into the dock and tugboats deliver the gigantic structure to the duty station. In July, another platform module was sent from the dock. Typically, the assembly cycle of a structure is three years. The time between sending the finished platform and the start of the construction of a new one was decided to be used for a unique match. Between the decision to hold a meeting in this location and the game itself, 20 days passed. During this time, the dock was drained, cleared of silt and algae. Although the area of the premises allows you to place six football fields in it, one was built, with an artificial turf.

In addition to the field itself, dressing rooms and stands for 150 people were equipped in the dock. Also, hundreds of workshop employees watched the game from the walls of the dock. Both teams received support, the chants of the clubs were heard throughout the match. Some of the clubs’ fans arrived in Murmansk on the same plane as the players.

2Drots midfielder Stanislav Manaev was late for the flight to Murmansk and had to fly separately from the team. Therefore, having effectively scored the first goal, the football player jokingly celebrated the goal – he lay down on the lawn and pretended to fall asleep.
Fans of Dynamo loudly drove their team forward, chanting: “Win! Win”. However, in the second half, 2Drots attacked more dangerously, and in the 64th minute they strengthened the advantage – Godfred Klutsej scored.
Dynamo, on the other hand, did not manage to take the opportunity to close the gap in the score – Yegor Pozdnyakov did not convert a penalty in the 89th minute.
2Drots football players celebrated their historic victory with the fans – they ran up to the podium and together with the audience danced to the song “Dreamer” performed by Yaroslav Evdokimov.
Medialeague teams have been playing in the Russian Cup since last year, and for the first time one of them managed to get into the fourth round. The next rival of 2Drots will be one of the Melbet teams – the First League, however, one of the founders of 2Drots, Evgeny Babenko, in an interview with a TASS correspondent, said that the club’s players are mentally ready for such a challenge. “We were preparing for the match, we understood our strengths and capabilities. Dmitry Viktorovich (Kuznetsov, head coach of 2Drots – TASS note) instilled confidence in us, laid the foundation for winners in us. I believe that we have completely outplayed the opponents,” he said. “We will do everything in our power to get through.” Kirov “Dynamo” plays in the Leon – Second League.

On the poster of the match was listed “Football at the end of the world.” As Kirill Tereshin, Director of the RFU Events and Marketing Communications Department, noted in an interview with TASS, the strategy for the development of the country’s cup is its “nationality”. “It’s about nationality, about the Cup of Russia from edge to edge, it’s about our big country, about regions, about people, dreams,” he said.
“In fact, today we presented the Football Everywhere program, we didn’t want it to be just a slogan or a banner. These should be bright, beautiful projects so that people can see in practice that this is possible, for example, you can hold a match in a dock on the Barents Sea,” said Tereshin.
“Football won today because it turned over a very significant page in history,” said Tereshin. According to him, one of the main problems that the RFU faces in promoting football is the abundance of distractions. “Now the world has changed, the digital generation is growing, we need to compete with this, lure, find formats,” the agency’s interlocutor added. Denis Solovyov, Vice-President of the RFU, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Novatek company, told reporters that now, in order to maintain interest in football, the new generation needs to make a show. He noted that three clubs of the Russian Premier League showed interest in hosting the game in the Murmansk region.
After the cup match, competitions between shop workers will be held on the field, and on September 7, an open training session will be held by a group of football players of the Russian national team led by Viktor Onopko and Yuri Nikiforov. After the completion of all events, the artificial turf will be transferred to the regional government, which will decide its fate – send it to one of the children’s and youth schools or football teams in the region.
