Unrest at Barcelona continues: motion against Bartomeu, Setién to judge | NOW

The unrest at FC Barcelona does not seem to have ended for the time being. A majority of the club’s members voted in favor of a vote of no confidence against President Josep Maria Bartomeu on Thursday, while recently fired coach Quique Setién announced he would go to court.

Bartomeu has been under fire in Camp Nou for some time. Within the club are many people, including star player Lionel Messi, who criticize the policy of the chairman.

In a statement, Barcelona says that 20,687 signatures have been collected. Sixteen thousand signatures were required for a motion of no confidence against the administration. The votes still have to be declared valid.

Earlier in the evening, Setien, who was put aside last month, announced that he only received official notice of his resignation last Wednesday. The 61-year-old Spaniard feels unfairly treated and goes to court.

It has been restless at Barcelona for some time, which ended a bad season last month with an 8-2 defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Messi then announced that he wanted to leave, although he has since turned around.

Setién was succeeded by Ronald Koeman, who exchanged the Dutch national team for his dream job as coach of Barcelona. He has to build a new team, although there seems to be little financially possible at the Spanish top club.
