Unrest among prisoners in Den Hey-Acker in Breda after corona infection by employee

A staff member of the Den Hey-Acker youth prison in Breda is infected with the corona virus. Contact research is being conducted among various detainees and colleagues. Corona tests have also decreased. A prisoner who may have symptoms of the virus has been set aside.

This is what the Judicial Institutions Service (DJI) says after questions from Omroep Brabant. “We are now waiting for the results of these tests.” The possible contamination of the prisoner and the contamination of the employee would have nothing to do with each other. “These are two separate situations.”

Several prisoners inform Omroep Brabant that they are concerned about the situation in the youth prison. The staff wear face masks, but the young people do not.

‘Coronauitbraak’
One of the detainees speaks of ‘a corona outbreak’. Another argues that staff returning from a holiday in a risk area will not be quarantined afterwards.

The prisoners would be troubled by the situation. In May an employee was taken hostage, it was released by an arrest team. However, a prisoner says that there was no hostage situation. The staff member “is said to have locked himself up after prisoners threw stuff at them, frustrated by the corona measures.”

DJI denies that there is a corona outbreak. The service also sticks to the previous story about a hostage situation. DJI also states that all employees adhere to the rules of RIVM, so that employees do quarantine after a trip, if necessary.
