Exchange platform cryptocurrency, Binance is prohibited from operating in Indonesia. This is because the platform has not been registered as an exchange at the Komiditi Futures Supervisory Agency (Bapebbti).
The Head of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Investment Alert Task Force, Tongam L. Tobing, said that Binance has been listed as an illegal investment as of October 2020.
“Binance in Indonesia entered the list of illegal investments in October 2020 for conducting crypto trading activities without a license,” he told detikcom, Monday (3/5/2021).
Tongam said that his party had summoned Binance’s board and lawyers. As a result, it was agreed that the platform’s activities would be stopped until we got a permit.
“SWI summoned Binance management and lawyers in Jakarta. It was agreed to stop Binance’s activities in Indonesia as long as there is permission from the competent authorities,” he said.
To note, there is a danger if a company operates in Indonesia but does not have a license because automatically no one is supervising it. Data such as business activities, flow of funds, and consumer protection are difficult to hold responsible for if a problem occurs.
“The risk is that the protection of the community cannot be guaranteed by these illegal business actors,” said Tongam.
