A curious fact was revealed on the night of this Sunday, when students and teachers of the University of El Salvador (UES), they discovered that someone had broken into the computer systems of the study house, changing the final grades of its more than 53,000 students.
The news was confirmed by students to the newspaper The World of El Salvador. “It was that we all got this, 6.90 from the first cycle to everyone in the U. Later we realized that they had hacked”, indicated one of them.

Indeed, until late Saturday night, it could be seen that the website of the university library was intervened by a ‘defacement‘, or a cover change, where there was now an illustration with the nickname of the alleged hacker. This morning the site could be reviewed normally, although several links appear broken or inactive.
On Twitter, meanwhile, you can find dozens of messages from students reporting the modification in their notes, ironic with the label #estaeslau
And not everyone is happy. This is because while in Chile the rating system is from 1 to 7, in El Salvador it is from 1 to 10Thus, a 6.9 could benefit those who were behind in their lines, but harm those who had better performance.

Although the university has not yet officially ruled, it emerged that damage can be reversed since at this point of the year teachers still keep records of the grades obtained by each student.
For some users linked to cybersecurity, however, beyond the qualifications, the concern is that the perpetrators may have had access to the personal information of thousands of students, as well as the history of computer attacks suffered by the university in the last time.
An even more serious problem is that there has been a leak of all the personal data of the students and staff that are in the @UESoficial

Given the history of attacks registered over the years to the subdomains of the U, more attention should be paid to the security of the existing infrastructure. #EstaEsLaU pic.twitter.com/kxRE0dz3ZB

Like many universities in the world, the UES remained in virtual class mode due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Still, it remains controversial because the Salvadoran government maintains a debt of about 12.9 million dollars with the campus, which, they denounce, jeopardizes the continuity of various educational programs.
