Universal Orlando restores use of masks due to COVID

ORLANDO, Florida, USA (AP) – Universal Orlando will reinstate the mandatory use of masks beginning on Christmas Eve, in response to the increase in COVID-cases as a result of the omicron variant.

Daily cases of coronavirus quadrupled last week in the state of Florida, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Hospitalizations have increased by 12%, says the CDC.

Universal Orlando reported that masks will be required at all covered public locations and at all attractions from the moment guests enter lines until they exit. The resort has had a busy holiday season with waits of up to three hours for the most popular attractions this week.

The requirements will be for guests and employees regardless of their vaccination status, and will cover restaurants, shops and covered public areas of the hotel.

Walt Disney World has yet to announce a decision to reinstate the use of face masks.
