Unity Makes Adjustments to Business Model and Apologizes to Gaming Community

In addition to various changes in plans, the developers were allowed not to use even the “Made with Unity” splash screen.

The dissatisfaction of the entire gaming community – not only the developers, but also the players themselves – was successful: Unity decided to make serious adjustments to its business model and apologize.

The Runtime Fee that sparked the scandal will still be charged to developers using the Unity Pro and Enterprise plans, but only after the next LTS version of Unity is released in 2024. Studios reserve the right not to update and work under the old conditions. Unity will give the opportunity to choose when paying for the Runtime Fee: a non-fixed amount, the size of which is affected by the number of new users, or a share of 2.5% of its income. At the same time, the developers will provide data on the number of players independently, although Unity initially intended to count everything itself. The Unity Personal tariff plan remains free. Moreover, developers using it can now avoid using the “Made with Unity” splash screen in their projects. Unity Personal will be available to developers whose turnover does not exceed 200 thousand dollars in the last 12 months, when before that the limit was 100 thousand. Runtime Fee commission will not be charged at all. from developers using the Unity Personal plan, as well as from games with less than $1 million in revenue and 1 million installs
