United States. Firefighter dismissed after posting photos of “daring” on Instagram

A 27-year-old American firefighter accuses her management of unfair dismissal. She says the reasons she was fired last August are sexist. He was accused of having posted on his Instagram account, dedicated to fitness, photos deemed daring showing the uniform of the brigade. The complainant considers that her male colleagues do the same without being punished.

Presley Pritchard, rescuer at the Evergreen Fire Brigade in Kalispell, Montana (United States), claims to have lost her job last August because of the content she published on Instagram. The 27-year-old American maintains an account on the social network dedicated to fitness, the photos of which were deemed too personal or provocative, reports Vice.

The firefighter filed a complaint last December. She judges the reasons for her dismissal sexist and believes that her male colleagues can publish comparable pictures without penalty. She explains, for example, that they show themselves shirtless, dressed in intervention, engaging in their hobbies or surrounded by family and friends.

Two years after arriving at the barracks, Presley Pritchard was criticized for using equipment belonging to the brigade and for publishing photos deemed too daring. A few months later, when she returned from leave, she was finally fired for failing to comply with the social media regulations. She claims, however, that the latter does not exist.

A decision deemed “hypocritical”

The young woman says she has been reprimanded many times about her Instagram account, her appearance in her work uniform or the outfits worn at the barracks’ gym or the one near her home. “He’s so hypocritical. […] There are lots of firefighters who make sexy calendars. If women did the same, […] everyone would call them whores or streaks, denounces the young woman. But for men, it works. “

The barracks management explained that they had dismissed the complainant because she had refused to remove photos in which she was wearing the brigade uniform. Presley Pritchard says he consulted a lawyer, who told him she didn’t have to.
