United Nations Responds to Accusations of Inaction in Ukraine Following Dam Bombing

Today, Thursday, the spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric, said that the United Nations is providing assistance to the people of Ukraine.

The United Nations statements came in response to the accusations of the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, regarding the unwillingness of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations to help deal with the consequences of the Nova Kakhovka Dam bombing.

Dujarric said, in a press statement, “We have been here since day one … our colleagues are physically present on the ground. We distribute water, hygiene items, provide psychological assistance… We are there as we have been since the beginning.”

Yesterday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was “shocked” by what he said was the failure of the United Nations and the Red Cross to provide assistance after the Kakhovka Dam was destroyed.

Zelensky told the German newspapers “Bild” and “Die Welt”, as well as the American newspaper “Politico”, that “although the disaster occurred several hours ago, they were not here .. We did not receive any response .. I am shocked.”

He added, “Russian soldiers were shooting from a distance while rescue attempts were taking place… As soon as our helpers try to save residents… they are shot.”
