Flight 2137 Experiences Possible Oil Warning Light Issue

CHICAGO – A United Airlines flight was forced to return to O’Hare Airport on Saturday morning due to a maintenance issue. Flight 2137, operated on an Airbus 320, was en route to Salt Lake City International Airport when a potential oil warning light issue occurred, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. There were a total of 149 passengers and five crew members on board at the time of the incident.

Safe Landing and Re-accommodation

The flight successfully landed around 11 a.m. and passengers were safely disembarked at the gate. United Airlines made arrangements for the passengers to continue their journey to Salt Lake City by providing a replacement aircraft.

Challenges for Airlines, Including United

The incident is the latest in a series of challenges faced by airlines, especially United. On Friday night, a United flight bound for Mexico City was forced to make an emergency landing in Los Angeles due to a hydraulic system issue. Earlier the same day, a separate United flight veered off the runway in Houston. Additionally, a wheel falling off a United Flight from San Francisco caused damage to two cars on the ground. Moreover, an American Airlines plane collided with a parked Frontier jet during its pushback from the gate.

FAA and Justice Department Investigations

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has initiated investigations into these incidents to determine the cause and prevent similar occurrences. Meanwhile, the United States Department of Justice is conducting an investigation into an Alaska Airlines flight where a door blew out on January 5. This investigation is examining whether Boeing has complied with a deferred prosecution agreement following the fatal crashes involving 737 Max planes in 2017 and 2018. Boeing had entered into the agreement and paid a fine of $2.5 billion as a result of those crashes.
