Today, at the founding congress of the Latvian Association of Regions, the officials of the participating parties signed the reorganization documents and those present voted on this issue, became the Latvian Association of Regions (LRA).

Until now, the parties belonging to the association “Ogres novadam” and “Rīgas alianse” have become one, but “Vidzeme party” and the associations belonging to the association remain its cooperation partners, which the parties confirmed by signing the reorganization documents. The leader of the new political force is Edvards Smiltēns, who is running for the second number in the Riga City Council elections from the joint list of the “Association of Latvian Regions” and the “National Association”. The members of the Association of Regions manage several municipalities, including the city of Liepaja and Ādaži. .

The LRA will not join the party, but the Vidzeme Party will remain as the party’s cooperation partners, as well as the associations “Liepājnieki”, “Latgale Power” and “Society for Central Politics”, whose representatives today participated and gave a support speech at the founding meeting.

“We do not live in slogans, we are connected with the farm. I think this is a very good basis for the whole nation to consolidate and move forward, to defend its interests. This is the niche we have to work on now,” said the LRA representative, Ādaži Chairman of the County Council Māris Sprindžuks.

“We, the heads of municipalities, feel calm and safe in our municipalities with our experience and work, but that is not enough, because we see what is happening in national politics. There are a lot of reforms and the thoughts and wishes of our citizens are not taken into account. , “why we have to go into politics,” emphasized the representative of the LRA, the chairman of Liepaja City Council Jānis Vilnītis.

As reported, the leader of the political force Edward Smilten today at the founding congress, said the LRA is the right time to become a party, so that the political force becomes stronger, more influential and more powerful.

In order to form a party, the association LRA has come a long way, stressed the politician emphasizing that the establishment of the party is neither a project of a social network revolution, nor is there a “money bag” behind the political force. Smiltēns pointed out that the alliance was initially formed by uniting the patriots of its regions, then becoming a regional force, which further “grew” with cooperation partners.

The politician pointed out that while it would be fashionable to call the “new” LRA, political power will not pretend not to. At the same time, the Association of Latvian Regions is entering a qualitatively new stage of growth, Smiltēns emphasized. He explained that the current format had reached its maximum because those interested in participating could not join the party, which will now change.

Smiltēns pointed out that the party institutions will be the council, the board and regional divisions, which are planned to be established in all regions of Latvia. He explained that the party was planned to be founded earlier, but was delayed by the spread of Covid-19, and now the opportunity is being taken to convene a founding meeting while there is a “fragile ceasefire in the fight against the pandemic”.
