Union of Afghanistan Veterans Demands Cancelation of Kristina Orbakaite Concert in Blagoveshchensk Due to American Citizenship

“Union of Afghanistan Veterans and Special Military Operations” demanded from the Governor of the Amur Region Vasily Orlov to cancel the concerts of pop singer Kristina Orbakaite in Blagoveshchensk because of her American citizenship.

The appeal states that American-made shells are killing Russian soldiers in Ukraine, therefore, in “such a difficult time for our country, the speech of a US citizen looks blasphemous and immoral.” If the concert takes place, veterans will perceive it as “a personal insult and disrespect for the memory of their fallen comrades,” the text says.

Tickets for two Orbakaite concerts on March 15 and 16 are sold at the box office of the Social and Cultural Center of Blagoveshchensk. Their cost varies from 2500 to 6000 rubles

Earlier, after the appeal of the “Combat Brotherhood” to the authorities of Buryatia canceled Kristina Orbakaite’s concert in Ulan-Ude, scheduled for March 13. Regional authorities did not specify the reasons for canceling Orbakaite’s speech, noting that she is not recognized as a “foreign agent” and her activities are “not prohibited.”

In December 2023, Russian tabloids wrote that Orbakaite had returned from the USA to Russia and appeared at the “Song of the Year” concert, as well as on air on Channel One.

The singer’s director, Alexander Kachan, said that he does not understand what could be the reason for the cancellation of Orbakaite’s performances in Russia, recalling that she participated in New Year’s concerts on federal channels.

The tour schedule still includes St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Chita, Bratsk, Khabarovsk and Irkutsk.

  • Kristina Orbakaite is the daughter of singer Alla Pugacheva, who opposed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and, together with her husband, comedian Maxim Galkin, emigrated to Israel. In April 2023, Orbakaite released a single called “Alla will sing.”
