UNICEF Executive Director Warns of Humanitarian Crisis for Children in the Gaza Strip

More than 1 million children are in the Gaza Strip, many of them missing or trapped under the rubble of buildings. This was stated by the Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Catherine Russell.

“There is no safe place for a million children in the Gaza Strip, [Газа] More than 4.6 thousand children have already died and about 9 thousand have been injured. Many children are missing and are believed to have been buried under the rubble of buildings and houses,” she was quoted as saying on the UNICEF website.

“The periodic opening of border crossings for the delivery of humanitarian supplies is not enough to meet the rapidly growing needs. And as winter approaches, the need for fuel may become even greater,” Russell said.

UNICEF previously reported that more than 400 children are killed or injured every day in the Gaza Strip, which has been under intense shelling by the Israeli army for weeks. According to a representative of the foundation, Gaza has essentially turned into a children’s cemetery.
