The estimated number of sufferers of Alzhemeir’s Disease in Indonesia in 2013 reached one million people. This number is expected to increase drastically to double by 2030, and to four million people by 2050. Instead of decreasing, the trend of Alzheimer’s Dementia sufferers in Indonesia is increasing every year.

Although dementia is mostly experienced by the elderly, this condition is not normal. Alzheimer’s dementia is a major cause of disability and dependence in elderly people on other people. Moreover, the current sufferer is not only the old one.

Moreover, said Astuti, the current pandemic era, which requires people to move at home, triggers a lifestyle sedentary or lazy to move. In the end, it makes chronic diseases such as diabetes more vulnerable, thus triggering accelerated damage to organs in the body including the brain.

“Current lifestyle, pandemic season, sedentary that is, a lot of it at the computer while snacking, less exercise. Maybe stressors also add because they have to stay at home, “he said.

Therefore, to prevent senility due to an unhealthy lifestyle, it is necessary to improve the lifestyle. The following is the trick according to dr. Astuti.

Reduce stress

This can be done by developing hobbies, virtual social activities, and spiritual deepening.

Balanced nutrition

Healthy diet and use of antioxidants, vitamins C and E, which come from vegetables. Fruit should also be consumed regularly. The intake of protein, carbohydrates and fat must also be limited as needed.

Regular physical exercise, vigorous aerobics

It is recommended to exercise at least 30 minutes with 3-5 times per week. The maximum exercise target itself is up to 300 minutes per week.

Avoid smoking and alcohol

Cigarettes and alcohol have been shown to have chemicals that are harmful to the body, including the brain. Not surprisingly, both can trigger Alzheimer’s from an early age.

Take control

Controlling risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol with routine medications. So as to minimize complications such as Alzheimer’s.
