French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne temporarily withdraws the provision consisting in a further tightening in case of unemployment below 6%. This draft decree on the new layoff reform, unveiled to the social partners on 23 December, aroused a wave of anger on the part of the various unions who had identified in it the trace of a reduction in the duration of the indemnity. if the unemployment rate falls below 6% (against the current 7.3%).
Faced with this status quo, the Minister of Labour, Olivier Dussopt, had hinted, before this decision was taken, the possibility of a tightening in the event of unemployment below 5%, i.e. at the level of “full employment”, but did not within 6%. Announced at the end of November, the decree provides for a 25% reduction in the duration of the benefit for all jobseekers who open their rights to unemployment insurance from 1 February in mainland France. It should be noted that the 6% provision will not be applied in 2023, unless the conditions of application have been developed in consultation with the social partners concerned.
