Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL) has not returned from abroad after his house was searched by the KPK. He was reportedly abroad to treat a prostate disease.

What is prostate disease and what are the symptoms like?

Collect Medical News Today, Prostate disease is a medical condition that disrupts the function of the prostate gland. The prostate gland is a part of the male reproductive organ which is located under the bladder and plays a role in the production of sperm-protecting fluid.

If the prostate gland is disturbed, this condition often causes the sufferer to have difficulty urinating and even erectile dysfunction.

Prostate problems are common, especially in older men. The most common diseases are prostate inflammation, prostate enlargement and prostate cancer.

Prostate function

1. Helps produce semen

The main function of the prostate is to donate prostatic fluid to semen. The prostate contributes 20-30% of fluid to the total volume of semen. The remainder comes from the seminal vesicles (50-65%) and testes (5%).

2. Closes the urethra during ejaculation

When the prostate contracts during ejaculation, it closes the opening between the bladder and the urethra, thereby forcing semen out quickly. This is why, in typical anatomical situations, it is impossible for men to urinate and ejaculate simultaneously.

3. Hormone metabolism

The prostate needs androgens, namely male sex hormones, such as testosterone, to function properly. The prostate contains an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase, which converts testosterone into a biologically active form called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This hormone is important for normal prostate development and function.

Symptoms of prostate problems

Prostate conditions often cause problems with urination or bladder control with the following symptoms:

Difficulty holding urine, frequent trips to the toilet Urgency to urinate, sometimes only a small amount of urine Difficulty starting the urine stream, or stopping and starting the flow of urine when urinating Weak urine flow

Prostate problems can also cause problems with sexual function, urinary tract infections, bladder stones, or in extreme cases, kidney failure.

If a person cannot urinate at all, they should seek medical attention immediately.

You should see a doctor immediately if you experience the following:

Pain when urinating or after ejaculation Pain in the penis, scrotum, or the area between the scrotum and anus Blood in the urine Severe discomfort in the abdomen Weak flow of urine or dribbling at the end Fever, chills, or body aches Difficulty controlling the bladder, such as stopping or delayed urination Inability to empty the bladder completely Urine with an unusual odor or color
