Monopoly players have just discovered there’s a hidden rule they didn’t know about, and it’s changing our view of the often friendship-destroying game.
The rule briefly goes like this: If you land on a property not owned by another player, you can buy the property at the stated price. But if you say no, the banker auctions off the property to the highest bidder. You can join the bidding war and get the chance to buy the property at a lower price.
Most of the home games, at least according to r/CasualUK, does not use this rule, and it has led to quite an uproar. If you have ever played Monopoly, you are probably more aware of this rule, as it is enforced in all games. Come to think of it, auctions can actually help make the notoriously long board game go a little faster, as properties can be bought up much faster, allowing players to get to the more frenzy-inducing parts faster.
