UN Secretary-General Condemns North Korea’s Attempt to Launch Satellite: International Reactions and Consequences

UN Secretary-General António Guterres strongly condemns North Korea’s attempt to launch a satellite. That’s what a spokesperson says on the night of Wednesday. In the statement, Guterres asks the country to comply with UN resolutions. The UN urges the authorities to talk to them again.

North Korea is not allowed to use long-range ballistic missiles. A space rocket is such a missile.

It is unclear whether the launch was successful. The US military has not published information showing that it is in Earth orbit.

North Korea claims the launch was successful.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemns the launch and points out that UN resolutions prohibit North Korea from using this type of technology.

Both Japan and the United States have also condemned Tuesday’s launch. It is assumed that the satellite will be used for surveillance.

South Korea partially abrogates a military agreement

An agreement on military detente with North Korea has been partially canceled by South Korea. The agreement was introduced in 2018.

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo of South Korea says the country will react due to the action of its neighbor to the north.

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo in South Korea says that the satellite launch is a “clear indication” that the neighbor to the north does not respect the agreements between them. This is reported by the Yonhap news agency.

South Korea is now to resume intelligence activity on the border that the military agreement has prevented them from doing.

Not the first attempt

The launch on Tuesday was the third attempt to launch the satellite.

When it became known that the satellite had been launched, an evacuation warning was issued in the Okinawa region, but it was withdrawn later when the missile passed over the Pacific Ocean instead.

If North Korea has managed to place the satellite in orbit, it is not the first time the country has managed to do something like this. North Korea has twice successfully launched satellites.
