UN refugee agency delivers supplies to Libyan hospital, medical center – Xinhua English.news.cn

TRIPOLI, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) — The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced on Wednesday that it has delivered medical supplies to a hospital and medical center in Tripoli, Libya.

“UNHCR has distributed medical equipment and supplies to Tripoli University Hospital and Weriamma Health Center in Tajoura, as part of our efforts to support Libyan health authorities. COVID cases remain high in the country” , UNHCR said in a statement.

Tripoli University Hospital is Libya’s largest hospital, and its emergency department treats an average of 20,000 patients per month, the statement said.

“UNHCR has donated medical supplies that can serve approximately 75,000 people, including oxygen masks, disposable sheets, antiseptics and medical instrument trolleys,” the statement said.

UNHCR also supported the Weriamma Health Center in eastern Tripoli, which provides primary care, obstetrics and vaccination services, among others. The center received an electrocardiograph and an ultrasound machine.

Due to several years of conflict and instability, the Libyan authorities are struggling to provide adequate basic services to the population. End
