UN launches alert – La Nouvelle Tribune

Each year, tens of thousands of people die from a new bacteria resistant to drugs and other antibiotics currently on the market. A real social problem, which worries more and more people starting with the representatives of the medical sector. WHO, the World Health Organization, wished to warn.

On Friday, the UN agency did point to the lack of innovation in the sector, saying more and more bacteria were becoming resistant to the drugs. The situation would be such that the great director of WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, allegedly stated that the threat was immediate and the need was urgent. What highlight the gaps and above all, the delay in innovation.

WHO worried

However, not everything is so hopeless. Indeed, many initiatives are currently underway. However, some governments and the pharmaceutical industry lobby need to do more to boost research. It must be said that in the eyes of WHO, antimicrobial resistance represents a real threat, the Organization going so far as to estimate that within a few years, we could enter an era in which the most common infections could again be dangerous and directly impact our lives.

The world of health, on the alert

In Europe, 33,000 people die from this problem every year, compared to more than 35,000 in the United States. The phenomenon is therefore gaining momentum as the bacteria continue their mutations. Problem, the development of new antibiotics is a long and relatively expensive process. About 60 new antibiotics are expected to hit the market in the coming years, however, within a decade, 252 new antibiotics may hit the market.
